Technician installing HaloValve
The HaloValve was born out of the need for added protection for Meter Set Assemblies in high-risk areas. These high-risk areas include Meters (or Farm-Taps) located in high-traffic areas, parking lots, roadways and alleyways. In addition, high-snow areas where falling snow could potentially pose a risk.
In many situations, bollards do not provide adequate protection. Upon impact bollards may bend or break, providing little protection. The HaloValve should be considered in any high-risk situation where bollards are being considered.
In some situations bollards aren’t practical or wanted. HaloValve provides an alternative form of protection in these situations. The HaloValve coupled with bollards would provide an even higher level of protection.
Possibly. In a high-risk situation, the EFV may not provide adequate protection. For example, if there were a line failure downstream of the regulator, the EFV wouldn’t trigger. Smaller leaks may also not trigger the EFV. The HaloValve ADDs an additional layer of protection for any at-risk Meter Set, with or without the presence of an EFV.
The HaloValve is ideal for high pressure/Farm-Tap applications. These installations are typically difficult to protect and located near roadways with high amounts of traffic. A high-pressure unit rated at 1,000 psi (69 bar) is available for these applications.
There are lots of variables involved with a Meter Set Installation. How is the Meter Set assembly installed? From what direction would the meter be impacted (front, side, above)? What is the potential speed of impact? We tested nearly every scenario and found that the HaloValve would ADD protection to any scenario and act as a gas leak prevention. The ultimate level of protection, however, does depend on the variables that are inherent to the specific installation.
Not necessarily. The original intent of the HaloValve was for use with EXISTING meters located in high-risk locations. Many of these installations do not have an EFV and may be difficult to protect. The HaloValve is ideal for these situations, whether it be a new or existing install in need of an upgrade.
In most situations, the HaloValve can simply be installed directly onto the meter’s shutoff valve, making it ideal to retrofit to existing Meter Sets.
Currently the HaloValve is available in only a 3/4" size. A 1" unit is currently under development and is expected to be available later in 2020.
HaloValve is available through a select network of distributors. For further information and to identify your local contact, please click here.
